Interview with Toast.Life ‘Host NYE like a pro’

When it comes to winter event décor – what would you say is ‘in’ this winter?

We’re loving the array of neutralised tones that have created the perfect basis for this year’s palette. Luxurious browns, golden yellows, and rusty oranges all generate warmth and comfort. Bark and natural evergreen add depth and texture to this earthy trend. It doesn’t have to be expensive; opt for the simplicity of natural materials.

NYE is one of the biggest, most exciting nights of the year, but it can divide some people, Marmite-style! Why do you think this is?

The hype and the pressure of throwing the best NYE party can really get to some. But we say ‘out with the old, and in with the new’ – let the party experts plan it for you. The challenge of creating THE party of the year is right up our street, allowing the host to relax, socialise and drink loads of champagne.

Do you love it or hate it?!

Another excuse for a party – are you kidding!?

Any top preparation tips – things you can do in the run up to the big day to help you get ahead?

Always have a plan B, C … and D! Make sure you’ve got all bases covered, everything from décor through to catering. And never forget your playlist – a party is never a party without the tunes!

Any tips for the evening itself – how to stay calm, be organised and enjoy it?! (a big ask, I know!)

Honestly…The only way to really stay calm, feel relaxed and enjoy it is to have someone else to plan it for you!

Your thoughts on styling, colour, themes, trends, must-haves?

Don’t underestimate the importance of lighting – good lighting can transform any space! In terms of colour, black, silver and gold, and anything sparkly is always a must have but try and steer away from the art deco styling, unless the theme of the evening is Great Gatsby!

Any tips on what to serve in terms of food and drink?

100% hire a bartender – let them shake up some cool cocktails for you and your guests. Sometimes it’s best to leave it to the professionals. If hiring a caterer is not an option, we totally recommend pre preparing all your culinary delights before the guests arrive, or better still, the day before!

Any tips for savvy spending?

Spend it where it counts: food, drink and of course the perfect outfit!

Any fun elements you could add?

Themed props add that fun element and are the perfect accessory for any photo. You could even go that step further and get your props personalised!

And when it comes to the dreaded big clean up?

Definitely have someone do this for you – ask a friend to help, or pay a professional!

Finally, what are Plain Jane’s plans for 2019?!

Events, events and more events… 2019 will be a great year!
